Asia, Brazil Helps Latin Shipping

China, Brazil and Colombia are expected to continue driving growth in Latin American shipping.

The Brazilian general manager for the world's third-largest container shipper expects growth in Latin American shipping to continue, especially on the Asia routes. He expects the strongest growth in routes between the Atlantic coast of Latin America and Asia, the Atlantic coast and Europe, while more uncertain times for the east coast of North America. He is seeing less and less imports from the United States. They expect the TEU traffic between the east coast of South America and Asia to double the next three to four years.

Inbound trade from China is expected to grow strongly. In Mexico alone, TEU imports from China will likely grow 10 percent or more. Experts also believe they will see same kind of growth in Peru, Chile and maybe Ecuador. Generally, it is felt that imports from China should be very good.
